This is part 2 of our Discovery Ridge Entertainer's Dream project case study. You can continue the story in whichever way suits you best. Read the transformation below or watch the video. We love options.
Mudrooms rarely get the spotlight, yet they quietly influence daily life. In this home, the mudroom was doing too many jobs at once. It served as the main entry from the garage, laundry room, storage area, and family drop zone. The space felt crowded and hard to maintain.
We shifted a wall and borrowed a small amount of space from the powder room to allow the mudroom to function properly. The laundry was moved upstairs to the level where most laundry is created. What remained on the main floor was reorganized with intention. Five individual cubbies now give each family member space for coats and bags, and a full wall of shoe storage keeps everything orderly. The room supports the family’s routines instead of working against them.
The walk-in closet on this level received a thoughtful refresh. Additional hanging space and shelving make clothing visible and accessible. Updated lighting and full-length mirrors brighten the room and support everyday dressing.
The primary ensuite bathroom saw the most dramatic change. The original corner tub dominated the room, but didn’t support how the couple used the space. We replaced it with a deep-soak standalone tub and a steam shower. The room now meets both relaxation and daily ritual needs.
Double sinks and tailored cabinetry bring calm and clarity to the layout. One special design detail is the curved hidden cabinet along the wall between the bedroom and the ensuite. The wall itself had an unusual curve, making storage placement difficult. Instead of working against it, we embraced it. The custom millwork curves seamlessly with the wall. When closed, it reads as beautiful wood panelling. With a touch-latch, it opens to reveal thoughtful storage for products and personal items. Practical, concealed, and deeply personal.
The lower level is geared for play and gathering. The old corner bar was replaced with a wall of cabinetry and a marble-look backdrop that elevates the room without overpowering it. There is now space for snacks, beverages, board games, and movie-night essentials.
Behind the sectional sofa, we added sofa tables with stools. This small detail allows more people to gather comfortably during game nights or movie marathons, all sharing the same experience. The surround sound creates an immersive atmosphere, and we learned quickly that the tech-savvy homeowner is the official keeper of the entertainment system. They understood it. We definitely needed instructions.
This renovation was not just about materials and layout. It shaped how the family moves through their days. The reveal was emotional for all of us. A year of shared decisions, problem-solving, creativity, and laughter had become a space that reflects how they live and who they are.

Sometimes a home doesn’t need more space. It needs space used with clarity, intention, and heart.
